How Mantras and Affirmations help support a positive mindset and elevate the energy within and surrounding you
The Power of Mantras and Affirmations
The history, study and meaning of mantras and affirmations run vast and deep, spanning many cultures, civilizations, philosophies, religions and spiritual teachings. Embraced by many is the idea that words and mantras carry an energy, energy that has the power to illuminate, transform, enlighten, to liberate, to remove ignorance, to reveal truth, and to assist one with carrying out one’s purpose/goal. Mantras are often used to attain different states of consciousness that lead to a better understanding of self.
Mantras help guide us in meditation, they set the tone and energy we seek to surround us, to elevate and inspire us. Mantras come in many forms, languages and origins.
Affirmations allow us to affirm and direct our desired actions and thoughts. There is power in our thoughts and vibratory power in the spoken word to attract the effects we want in our lives. Our minds can set intentions, our words call those intentions into existence.
Daily affirmations and mantras are important to set up our visions and actions, and to infuse us with ideas and thoughts that serve our highest good and dissipate that which works against us, which often is ourselves through our own minds. If something doesn’t serve you positively, if you wake up anxious, if you just want to set the tone for the day, then start with a mantra and affirmation to elevate your mind and day. Below are some examples, but remember everyone is on their own path, and there are no rules, so find what make you feel good, what is needed at the time or the day, which evolves daily, and know there are many around you willing to help and support you.
The Most Universal Mantra and one of the well-known Mantras
OM – a mystic, primordial sound, which is at the root of all mantras. As stated in the Mandukya Upanisad of the Athavaveda, whatsoever exists, whatsoever has existed and whatsoever is likely to exist hereafter, is Om. For a deeper understanding of Om we look to the Mandukya Upanisad which explains that Om is actually divided into four parts (AUM): “A” is the waking state, the physical nature of the universal person; “U”, the mental condition, the dream state; “M” representing wisdom and knowledge, the deep sleep state for stay, with no desire for the waking or dream states, rather it is the state of bliss – the gateway to all other definite cognitions- the knower, the controller, the source, origin; and “AUM” in its entirety, which in itself is partless and soundless- the transcendental state- it is the self and to be realized.
There are no rules or right or wrong in choosing your mantra. Which mantra you ultimately decide to listen to, to use, to sing, to speak is personal, changes with time, and up to you so long as your mantras uplift, elevate and energize you.
